One Room Challenge | Dining Room Delight | Week 3

One Room Challenge | Dining Room Delight | Week 3

Plans change

Hello all and welcome to week 3 of the One Room Challenge. We are officially at the halfway mark. I just started to panic a little as I typed that…OK a lot!

I’ve just returned from High Point furniture market which always seems to land between week two and three of the One Room Challenge making this challenge even more challenging. Being gone for close to a week sure does slow down progress.

Plus, you don’t even know how much laundry seems to accumulate while I’m away. It’s like my kids and husband wear every outfit they own while I’m away. (Sigh-as I stare at 5 loads of laundry on my bed waiting to be folded) I’m curious how all you mom’s who travel handle this situation? Sorry, I digress.

If you are just joining me on this wild ride, welcome! Please be sure to check out where I started and why I picked my dining room in Week One here. If you’re completely new and wondering what the heck I’m talking about you can read all about the One Room Challenge, here and check out our new media sponsor this season Better Homes and Gardens here.

In Week Two I had an idea of the direction I was going to take. Then I went to High Point furniture market and most of that plan changed. I knew I would be actively looking for new dining chairs that I could get quickly so preferred finding some either in stock with the vendor or buying market samples off the showroom floor.

This was the chair I was originally looking for. It was in stock but I was unable to see it in person to really get an idea of the stain finish. My dining table is rosewood, which has rich red tones. So selecting the right stain finish to compliment the red tones was crucial. When mixing stain finishes it’s really important to make sure that they compliment one another. I do love the shape and clean style of it. If you think these might work for your dining table you can contact me here.

Here’s what I found instead. They are showroom market samples that I purchased from one of my vendors. Samples sell off very quickly so I had to make a decision then and there. I really love the contrast the whitish/grayish finish color will look with my rosewood table. Actually my table finish is similar to the one shown. While the avocado leather upholstered seat isn’t exactly what I would have selected, I believe they will still work beautifully in my space. If for some reason when I get them home and they don’t look great, reupholstering a seat is pretty easy to do. However, the time may not allow for that during this challenge.

Since my new chairs took my room to a different color scheme then previously planned. I now needed to rethink draperies and artwork. One of my designer friends at market had this beautiful sample of a 100% Italian linen fabric that is crazy gorgeous. I immediately feel in love with the floral pattern and the colors would work perfectly in my dining room. I was ready to get it on order, so that I could get it to my workroom in time to get my draperies made. Then, I found out the beautiful Italian linen price. –PAUSE- “How much? $$$$, oh goodness!”

There is no way I could possibly spend more on these drapes then my dining furniture and keep my marriage intact. (sniff, sniff)

Here is an image I found online of the fabric just in case someone else wants to consider them for a project.

Moving on to plan c or d now. One of my favorite showrooms at HP market is Thibaut. They have a beautiful selection of fabrics, wallpapers and furniture and the floral arrangements in their showroom are stunning!

I needed to re-look at my wallpaper that I picked out for the challenge and confirm my order. While working on that I found some already made custom draperies that they had made for a photo shoot and they happened to be selling them for a price way to good to refuse. Done!

I will have to have them hemmed but that’s an easy quick fix.

With the chairs and drapery change, I didn’t love my wallpaper selection any longer. Now, I needed to find and re-select another wallpaper. See how one change effects all choices? It’s a snowball effect! Luckily, I was still in the right place (Thibaut showroom) to re-select. I picked out a beautiful, timeless, classic, ebony grasscloth wallpaper. Done!

Finding the above items and purchasing those was a huge check mark on my to-do list.

I did also get my lamps and chandelier on order this week. I can’t wait to get them!

I haven’t committed to a rug just yet. I may have one I already own that will work. I also still need a narrow console table or sideboard to put in between my built-ins.

If you have been watching my IG stories I did find an original piece of artwork that is currently being framed. I haven’t decided yet if I want to surprise you with the art or show you when it’s done. What do you think? Do you want to be surprised?

Not a ton of work actually happened in the room while I was away. All the trim work did get a nice new coat of SW Pure White paint and the back of the built-ins were painted SW Tricorn black.

Yesterday my carpenter was able to apply some trim detail to the ceiling. If you know me, you know a ceiling rarely goes untouched in my design projects. I’ll share a little more about the detail and paint plan for that next week.

I encourage you to also check out the 20 featured designers and the 200+ participants this season for some major design inspiration. Also, some really exciting news -At the end of this challenge Better Homes and Gardens will be selecting 2 participants to be apart of the 20 featured designers next April 2019. It’s going to be a very tough decision this season, so many great rooms to choose from!

I think that’s it for today. I’m exhausted from #hpmkt and need to catch up with work. See you all next week for my week four update.

Thank you all for stopping by today! I hope you all are enjoying following along as I freshen up my #diningroomdelight for the #OneRoomChallenge. You can follow along too on Instagram, on the tag, #oneroomchallenge #ORC and #BHGORC
