Spring 2024 One Room Challenge

Here we go again! Another round of the One Room Challenge. I honestly thought I was going to sit this one out until I started looking around my house and seeing how many more rooms need to be Jana-ified!! Plus, being honest here, I was having some FOMO!

This ORC I will take on and transform an unused office space into a cozy haven of relaxation and indulgence. I’m excited to share my journey with you as I turn this unused space into a library/cocktail room. Staying true to my vibe it will be both classic, vibrant, sophisticated and comfortable.

Help me name this project: Something like Literature and Libations or Books and Booze….lol. Original I know! I’ll start a poll on IG, go and vote there.

Inspiration Strikes: As I contemplated my project, I knew I wanted to create a space that would invite both relaxation and conviviality. The idea of a library/cocktail room immediately captured my imagination – a place where one could unwind with a good book or gather with a couple friends for a libation.

I immediately remembered this cocktail bar while I was in Vegas last month at KBIS. It literally stopped me in my tracks. It wasn’t even open but that didn’t stop me from walking in and taking photos of this beauty. The color, the vibe, it felt so me! So this is my inspiration for the makeover.

Designing a space I want to hang out: My vision for the space is centered around creating a cozy retreat that exudes warmth and sophistication. I’ll be incorporating classic elements in the millwork, plush seating (I’ll be keeping the gray velvet sofa), and a unique lighting fixture. I have yet to decide if I want to add some millwork design on the ceiling. TBD.

Adding Vibrant Accents: Staying true to my design aesthetic, I’m excited to infuse the space with vibrant accents that will add a pop of personality and energy. Think bold accent colors, vibrant artwork, and playful accessories. These touches of color will inject a sense of liveliness and playfulness into the room, creating an inviting and fun atmosphere.

A Sanctuary for Cocktails and Conversations: At the heart of the room will be a well-appointed bar area, complete with everything needed to craft the perfect cocktail. I’ll add another seating area complete with two chairs and table. A perfect size for a board game or a couple drinks. I’ll also make over an existing desk, as an added option for my kiddos to come in a do their homework. As I dive into the design process, I’ll be mindful of striking a balance between classic elegance and vibrant personality. Each element will be carefully curated to complement the overall aesthetic of the room.
